Florence – Jay Jordan, Republican candidate for Congress in South Carolina’s new 7th Congressional District has come out strong against the Obama administration’s incursion in to religious freedom.

“The Obama administration just doesn’t get it,” said Jordan. “This intrusion into religious organizations is simply unacceptable and offensive to not only conservative Republicans like me, but Democrats and independents alike.”

Under Obamacare, passed in March of 2010, insurers must cover preventive care at no out-of-pocket cost for consumers – included in this mandate was the recommendation that all forms of contraception be included on the list of covered services.  These provisions would force religious and faith based groups and church based hospitals to pay for contraceptives for its employees, something which is inherently against church doctrine.

A variety of Christian organizations have denounced the move and subsequent attempts by the Administration to quell the outpouring of opposition.

“This is but the latest example of an out of touch Obama administration and Democrat Party attacking organizations and beliefs they view as threatening to their liberal doctrines,” said Jordan.  “I believe in the Lord’s Commandments, not government mandates and regulations. This is why we need real, conservative leadership in the United States House of Representatives.”

“This action and the outcry of opposition I have heard over the weekend has compelled me to bring together pastors and religious officials from across the new 7th District in the coming days and weeks to discuss this issue and what we can do to push back against a government that grows increasingly hostile to our way of living out our faith.”

“As the conservative choice in this race for the 7th District nomination, you can count on me to always fight for the rights and freedoms of the faithful.”
